In this one day experience, we’ll take you on a cultural, sensory and informative journey through Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi. Experience Hanoi like a local starting from a traditional “Pho” breakfast and the famous Hanoi egg coffee. Wander through local alleyways of the Old Quarter to experience the hustle and bustle of life in Hanoi. Walk through marketplaces with your guide and learn to shop like a local. Then learn about decades of colonial imprisonment at the Hoa Lo Prison, quite a chilling but important sight. Eat bun cha at the very restaurant Obama and Anthony Bourdain ate at and finish the evening with a sunset walk along the Hanoi railway and fresh draft Bia Hoi. MORNING
Meet your local guide in the lobby of your hotel for a traditional and authentic Pho breakfast at one of the most famous four-generation family-owned Pho restaurants in town. Enjoy breakfast right on the sidewalk watching morning traffic go by on little plastic chairs.
After that wander through different alleyways to learn about life in the Old Quarter and how the city has changed from the perspective of a Hanoi native. Experience the hustle and bustle of Hanoi through marketplaces and small streets. We’ll teach you how to shop like a local, picking the freshest herbs, exotic fruits and best snacks. Then complete the morning at a local family café to try famous Hanoi egg coffee.
Vietnam is a vibrant and developing country but remnants of the Vietnam War are still in plain sight. Learn about the “American War” from the perspective of your local Vietnam guide at the B-52 Lake. Then visit the Hoa Lo Prison (also known as the Hanoi Hilton – find out why on the tour) to learn about decades of French colonial imprisonment of Vietnamese patriots.
AFTERNOON
Have lunch at the very spot that Obama and Anthony Bourdain met to eat Bun Cha, a grilled barbeque pork and noodle combo in a tangy and slightly sweet sauce. Then return to the hotel for a short rest or an optional coffee break.
Meet again in the late afternoon and take a sunset walk with your guide along the Hanoi railway line for photos.
Continue on to try fresh Hanoi draft beer “Bia Hoi” before ending the tour. We’ll make recommendations on where to go for nightlife and dinner.
