Best Time To Visit Vietnam

Geographically, Vietnam is located in a tropical and temperate zone where the annual average temperature ranges from 22°C (71°F) to 27°C (80°F) all year round. Vietnam is great to visit all year round, but each region has its own seasonality. It’s best to know the weather of each region before you go. We’ll tell you the best time to visit Vietnam and its different parts.

BEST TIME TO VISIT NORTHERN VIETNAM

Vietnam is a long strip of land featuring beautiful and pure coastline to its east and bordering Cambodia and Laos to its west and China to its north. Locals think of Vietnam as being divided into 3 parts: northern Vietnam, Central Vietnam and Southern Vietnam. The North of Vietnam, where Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa are located, has four distinct seasons. The hot and rainy season is from April to September and the cool dry season is from October to March. October and November are the best months to visit Northern Vietnam for optimal weather and less humidity. Also, it’s considered low season in Vietnam so you’ll miss the tourist crowds (BONUS!).

If you’re planning to visit the mountains in the northwest and south central Vietnam, it stays fairly cool all year round and it’s a great place to escape the heat from the cities during the summer. It’s also great for trekking, biking and other outdoor activities. But avoid the rainy season from May to September and extreme weather conditions like snow or flurries in December and January. Also it might not be possible to swim during the winter.

BEST TIME TO VISIT CENTRAL VIETNAM

The central part of Vietnam is where Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An and most of Vietnam’s beautiful beaches are located. The best time to visit central Vietnam is during the dry season from January to August. The average temperature around this time is about 25°C (77°F). September is a great time to visit the beaches of Vietnam as the weather starts to cool and there aren’t as many tourists around. In our opinion, the beaches are at their best in April. The Phong Nha caves near Hue are very popular and it’s a great experience to swim in the river that runs through the caves. However, this is only possible during the dry months as water levels are too high with a lot of sediment during the rainy season.

BEST TIME TO VISIT SOUTHERN VIETNAM

BEN TRE, VIETNAM-NOV 18, 2013: A famous tourist destination is Ben Tre village on Nov 18, 2013. in Mekong delta , Vietnam. Mekong Delta is home of people who live along the many channels.

Southern Vietnam, where Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Mekong Delta, Nha Trang, and Mui Ne are located, is typically hot all year round with two main seasons: rainy and dry. The average temperature in the South is around 25°C (77°F) to 35°C (95°F) all year round. It is the most predictable region in terms of weather. Rainy season is from May to August marked by heavy but short downpours usually once a day. Best time to visit Southern Vietnam is during the dry season from September to April.

LOW SEASON IN VIETNAM

Another great time to visit Vietnam is during the low season. Low season in Vietnam is usually from April to June and again from September to November. High season for tourism is during July and August.

CONCLUSION: SEPTEMBER TO APRIL IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT VIETNAM
